WHO WE ARE
Stichting Asambeho Aruba is a local cultural foundation committed to the preservation of Asambeho, a unique Aruban musical rhythm created in the 1960s. They are the guardians of a heritage created by pioneers Arnold Beyde, Samuel Hodge, and Alfonso “Bulto” Gibbs, whose names form the very acronym of their identity: A-SAM-BE-HO.
WHAT WE DO
-
Cultural Preservation: They safeguard the authentic sound of Asambeho—a fusion of samba, calypso, and marching rhythms—ensuring it remains a vibrant part of Aruba’s national identity.
-
Community Workshops: The foundation organizes educational events, such as the Asambeho Drum Camp (Herfstvakantie Edition) held at Centro di Bario Brazil, to train new generations in traditional brass and percussion.
-
Collaborations: They work alongside other cultural pillars like the Massive Brass Band and Go Cultura to reintegrate these rhythms into Aruba’s Carnival and public festivals.
-
Innovate: They advocate for the complete history of the rhythm, including the "Alias ASAMBEGHO" to honor all three original creators.
WHO WE SERVE
-
The Youth of Aruba: By providing musical education and a platform for young musicians to connect with their roots.
-
The Cultural Community: Supporting local artists and ensuring that Aruba’s unique musical landscape is celebrated both locally and internationally.
-
Locals and Visitors: Enhancing the Carnival experience for "carnavalistas" and sharing our "soul rhythm" with tourists to showcase the authentic spirit of the island.
