WHO WE ARE

Stichting Funari’s Arte sin frontera – Art without borders project celebrates Aruba’s cultural roots by involving people of all abilities in music, art, and poetry. They emphasize inclusivity and accessibility. 

 

Participants research their family and cultural history, then create art, poetry, and traditional music inspired by it. The project ends with a multidisciplinary exhibition, showcasing the diverse talents and stories of the communities.

WHAT WE DO

Project Goals

• Cultural Heritage Appreciation: Encourage participants to reconnect with their traditions and cultural heritage. 

• Artistic and Creative Development: Stimulate the artistic abilities of each participant, regardless of their physical limitations. 

• Inclusivity and Accessibility: Ensure that everyone, irrespective of their abilities, can find a place in the world of art and creativity. 

• Community Bonding: Create a sense of unity and support among the participants. 

 

Activities Summary

1. Research Phase 

• Description: Participants will conduct research on Aruba's history and their personal family histories. This includes visits to the National Archive of Aruba, the National Library of Aruba, and collecting oral histories from families. 

• Impact: Helps participants connect with their cultural and personal heritage, providing a foundation for creative expression.

2. Creative Activities 

Music Workshops: 

• Objective: Teach participants to play traditional musical instruments used by their ancestors, such as the flute, tambu, and maraca. 

Singing Workshops: 

• Objective: Teach and practice traditional songs, including their historical and cultural contexts. 

Poetry Workshops: 

• Objective: Use historical, cultural, and traditional elements to create poetry that describes landscapes, rituals, and important historical figures. 

Art Workshops: 

• Objective: Create art inspired by participants' personal and cultural histories, focusing on traditional themes, family myths, and cultural symbols.

3. Final Exhibition 

• Description: An artistic exhibition covering various disciplines including music, singing, poetry, and art, showcasing the creations of all participants. 

• Objective: Promote cultural heritage appreciation and intergenerational collaboration among participants. 

 

WHO WE SERVE

Stichting Funari targets a diverse group of participants, including: 

• Individuals with Physical and Visual Limitations: Engaging them in creative and cultural activities. 

• Students from Colegio Sagrado Curason: Providing them with opportunities to learn about and express their cultural heritage. 

• Local Artists and Experts: Involving them as instructors and mentors for the workshops. 

• Broader Community: Encouraging community members to attend the final exhibition and support the participants.
