WHO WE ARE
The Art Agency foundation works together on this project with Nelly Blaise from True Roots, a (yet) to be established foundation. The Art Agency foundation highlights local talent, stimulates cultural projects through financial support, teaches artists to become self-sustainable, encourage multi-disciplinary activities in the arts, educates the community and manages artist portfolios and media exposure. They do this through hosting exhibitions, lecture, workshops and live concerts or performing arts.
WHAT WE DO
The project aims to create a series of 4 educational and interactive workshops designed to empower the community of St. Maarten by embracing natural hair and combating hair discrimination. By exploring the historical, cultural, and contemporary significance of Black hair, participants will gain a deeper understanding of their heritage and develop the confidence to express their natural beauty. The project will culminate in a community event (festival) that celebrates natural hair, featuring discussions, DIY product-making sessions, and an opportunity to showcase and share personal hair stories. This budget will cover the events costs, marketing, organization, performers/speakers costs and rental of the facilities.
