Bario Unico 

WHO WE ARE

The Bario Unico initiative, created by CEDE ARUBA, aims to promote social cohesion and community engagement by revitalizing community centers into sustainable social hubs. These centers will provide cultural and arts programs tailored to the diverse populations of the neighborhoods they serve, offering opportunities for skill development, artistic expression, and community betterment.

The overall goal is to promote and make art and culture more accessible to local communities, especially for target groups who have fewer resources or are vulnerable. With a specific focus on youth, to give them opportunities to develop their artistic talents and become more active in the community center. 

WHAT WE DO

The activities will vary from lessons, workshops, events/shows (for example, a theater or music show where participants can demonstrate their talents), etc.

This will vary from one-time activities/events to structural activities that can be short- and/or long-term. For example, a mural workshop that lasts 6 weeks or guitar lessons that can become something permanent. 

Each center organizes its own arts and culture programs, like music lessons, theater, dance, and craft workshops. Special projects like Documenta den bo Bario train youth to document their own neighborhood stories, helping to strengthen community identity and pride.

• Centro di Bario Santa Cruz- community center: Music lessons and continuation on their previous programs. 

• Centro di Bario Noord- community center: Noordflix (Exhibit of Noord’s past, present, and future), Folklore dance lessons for children, Music lessons continuation, Music festival, National holidays celebration 

• Centro di Bario Dakota- community center: Keeping the legacy and traditions of Popcorn Dancers alive. 

• Centro di Bario Savaneta- community center: Offers a variety of creative and cultural activities for children and families, including music, arts, and festive events. Slowly expanding opportunities for youth engagement through performance and traditional celebrations.

WHO WE SERVE

We want to keep the accessibility of art and culture open to all target groups, but we do want to place a greater focus on youth, offering more activities and opportunities for young people.
