WHO WE ARE
Where Voices Rise. Where Community Gathers.
Basha Foundation is a community-driven creative platform rooted in Aruba. We exist to create space — space for expression, for storytelling, for performance, for connection.
We believe creativity is not a luxury. It is a necessity.
-
We are not just event organizers.
-
We are facilitators of expression.
-
We are builders of creative ecosystems.
-
We are an island of voices.
At Basha Foundation, poetry is not confined to pages or podiums. It is spoken. Sung. Danced. Lived.
And there will always be room on our stage for you!
WHAT WE DO
-
We build stages.
-
We build community.
-
We build moments that stay with you long after the lights go down.
At the heart of Basha Foundation are our Poetry Nights — but to call them “just poetry nights” would be an understatement.
Poetry Nights
-
A microphone.
-
A spotlight.
-
A room full of possibility.
Poetry Nights is a series of themed evenings throughout the year where poetry, storytelling, spoken word, music, dance, comedy, and performance art collide.
Each night carries a theme — Love, Loss Of Innocence, Rebirth, Pride, Cabes di Pinda (A popular Aruban proverb) — themes chosen for their emotional weight and significance. These themes become invitations. Many performers use them as inspiration, transforming personal stories into shared experiences.
Our stage is a blank canvas.
Anyone willing to step forward can:
-
Tell a story
-
Perform a song
-
Share a poem
-
Showcase a musical act
-
Perform a comedy skit
-
Move through dance
What matters most is courage and authenticity.
With every Poetry Night, we create unique bonds between creatives of all ages — moments of laughter, vulnerability, insight, and care. Strangers leave as collaborators. Artists leave inspired. The community leaves stronger.
Poetry Is an Island
Inspired by Nobel Laureate Derek Walcott’s powerful phrase, Poetry Is an Island is our full-day community art fair where creativity takes over public spaces.
Here, poetry doesn’t wait quietly on a stage.
It bursts into the streets.
Expect:
-
Live music
-
Poets roaming and proclaiming their work
-
Visual art installations
-
Dance
-
Artist showcases
-
Locally handmade arts and crafts
-
In 2017, Poetry Is an Island transformed Kerkstraat into a living, breathing celebration of art. And when it returns, it may appear anywhere — because poetry belongs wherever people gather.
Community & Collaboration
Basha Foundation actively collaborates with artists, organizations, and institutions throughout the year. From partnerships with Jazz Expo by Carlos Bislip, to Poetry Encounter with the University of Aruba, to children’s editions of our events — our mission extends beyond a single stage.
We believe art thrives in collaboration. We believe culture grows when shared.
