WHO WE ARE

Ateliers ’89 is a non-profit art institution located in Aruba. It aims to bring contemporary art closer to the youth and general public of Aruba through extensive programming and special events throughout the year. Their mission is to create well-rounded individuals through art education and exhibitions.

Their annual Exposition di Verano showcases both local and international artists, while Arte den Bario brings free art workshops directly into neighborhoods. Covering painting, photography, dance, music, and film, the project makes art accessible to all corners of the island.

WHAT WE DO

Exposicion di Verano (Summer Exhibition)
An annual contemporary art exhibition held in July–August in Oranjestad, presenting recent work by local and international artists. The exhibition attracts strong public interest and visibility from the press and international curators, engaging both residents and tourists and positioning Aruba within a broader contemporary art network.

Projecto Arte Den Bario (Art in the Neighborhood)
This project delivers free four-week contemporary art workshops in five neighborhoods throughout the year for youth and adults with limited access to arts education. By working across multiple disciplines and actively involving families and local volunteers, it strengthens creative skills, community participation, and social connection.

Cashi’ Recuerdo
Cashi’ Recuerdo is a mixed-media art project with people living with Alzheimer’s, using personal memories as inspiration for visual artworks. The process encourages emotional expression, moments of clarity, and meaningful engagement, fostering dignity, recognition, and human connection.

Joyful Gifts
Joyful Gifts is a collaborative art project with elderly residents of Cas Amada, including participants with physical, visual, and cognitive challenges, who create handmade gifts for their loved ones. The project promotes joy, purpose, and emotional wellbeing while reinforcing family bonds during the holiday season.
